The layout isnt an elite golf course layout but it is a very pretty and extremely well maintained parkland course which flows through mature parkland with every hole being well defined. It is a parkland course which suffered severely from Dutch Elm Disease in the 1970s and a tree planting programme was set into operation to repair the damage. Two excellent shots are required to reach a bunkerless green which is superbly defended by a diagonal gully fronting a tricky multi-tiered green. I would say the highlight holes come in the back nine mostly, my two favourites being the 16th, a very short but very well bunkered par 3 with a 3 tiered green,and the 18th which has two vast cross bunkers in driving range with a layup leaving a semi blind shot into the green. This course underwent a true transformation. The course is very flat but the bunker lips have been flared up so that where there are multiple bunkers either side of a fairway or around a green, depth perception can be very thrown off. Over looked by our club house is the practice putting green. The course is not overly long but is fairly tight so accuracy is more important than distance.I found myself hitting hybrid off most tees to set up a shot into the greens, which are all quite small and have some tricky slopes if missed on the wrong side. Length: 6288 The 7th hole requires excellent skill and judgement to avoid a range of obstacles, including ditches, bunkers and a slanting tree across the fairway. This hole so impressed Sir Henry Cotton that it became known as Cottons Fancy. Strong par fours dominate the front nine, the 4th "Rabbits Corner" stretches to almost 450 yards and the 7th measuring 422 yards has a pronounced ridge running from back to front in the green potentially leaving a very difficult putt.
