Mode 3 seems to be the smoother of the two gainy modes, likely because you can hear the blend of the clean tone in that circuit too. Accenting a part or lead run using the momentary portion of the switch, no click, is an excellent feature. from Maryland on June 14, 2020, By Nick McVicker Back to the drawing board with the rest of the OD manufacturers on account of they forgot to make their pedals as bad*** as this. But Mode 3 blew my mind. You could pay more than that and probably have just for one of the modes. It's hard to describe overdrive in writing, but it's a very usable overdrive. I have Keely, catalinbread, MXr, wampler, walrus pedals. Its glues my distortion and/turns my clean channel into a beautiful blooming over drive or turn it into a huge open sounding distorted monster.
Is there a style of overdrive I should be looking for that would stack after a distortion that will give me that sustain, volume boost, and cut through a band ? The biggest of which was a loud popping noise when engaging the pedal. Then, back off the guitar volume and it really tightens it up. I'll keep it short and sweet. Running a Tumnus Deluxe in front of a Pantheon, followed by the EQuator into a VOX AC15C1. I never used it as a drive, more like an EQ. I think the Organizer will be my next pedal. Also sounds great in front of a Marshall Jubilee. Education with you and That pedal show. Warm and creamy. For the price, you honestly can't find a better TS style circuit with this much tonal variety. The clipping modes are extremely useful because I don't necessarily want to have the same clipping modes for the clean channel of my amp vs the dirty channel, so I use mode 2 for clean, and 1 or 3 for dirty.
Both are ODs but the Grunge is heavier. The sounds you can coax from this thing are incredible. on January 16, 2022, Music Background: Blues, metal, rock, classical, By Josef Breslin This is a great tube screamer style pedal which has more depth of tone, versatility, and dimension of grittiness than other pedals I've tried. Im simply wondering if anyone can confirm this issue. You can hear the original signal coming through if you're on the clean channel, which is very odd. If you have a dark amp and need a tubescreamer style pedal, then the Plumes is for you. Im not terribly experienced, but looking to learn more. I've read some other reviews saying the Plumes is bright, but I'm not hearing it. It has three knobs--your basic tube screamer/overdrive setup--but in a additiom has THREE different modes. Even sounded great for a little country/ southern rock riff I tried it with. "Transparent" (hate using that word) but man, it does that drive sound, it does clean boost and it"s got more gain then a tube screamer but it retains this clarity even dimed, it doesn"t get muddy at all, the tone knob goes bass heavy to the left and treble to the right but keeps its clarity cranked either way. "This is normal. I"m just a weekend player, maybe 2 or 3 times a month but I"ll tell you this pedal is permanently on
It's almost like getting three pedals for the price of one, which is at the time of writing, only a cool $99. I like the EHX Hot Tubes (drive at noon) into the Hotone Grass (drive at 1 1/2) into my Laney LG35R (crunch channel, drive at 5). I did a lot of diagnosing and determined that the problem was in the pedal. It's crazy good. For me, that mode 2 headroom is too hard to ignore. This pedal rules. I love Sweatwater sales and service. I switched to the Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 for both my rigs, and it took a great amount of reading to fully understand the EQ sections of that particular amp, which I have to say I am now convinced there is genius in the design of the Mark V series. on December 7, 2019, By Scott The Earthquaker Plumes is practically 3 pedals in one small box. Music Background: Death metal, hardcore, black metal, southern rock, recording artist. It can go from a classic to more modern sounds easily.
Wondering what would be a good option to pair with a Paisley Drive? How should i stack them? Here is a video we released recently that details and shows examples of stacking: A few fun Wampler-related stacks that work really well together: There are a lot more out there. great clean overdriven clean tone like the 70's tone of the overdriven blackface fender amps. Give me your top 3 emperor has no clothes bands.
from Potomac, MT on April 22, 2022, By Sweetwater Customer This was exactly what I was looking for! A second pedal was sent to me but, had the same issue. Thanks Alan Moon!!!!
on December 10, 2020, By Patrick I got myself this OD pedal as a birthday gift and man was it worth the wait, it's practically 3 pedals in one!
Using this with a Fender Blues Deluxe reissue with 12ay7s in the V1 and V2 positions so basically my amp stays super clean until it's cranked to unbearable levels. Music Background: Playing guitar and in bands for over 15 years.
I have Tumnus Deluxe and recently added the Clarksdale to my board.
Modes 1 and 2 are loud, 2 has a ton of volume, 1 has that amazing range of gain and tone, 3 has that Tube Screamer tone but more beef! This thing is AMAZING! Nice and gritty while staying articulate. I loved the pedal initially. Keeley Compressor Plus -> EQD Plumes -> EQD Black Ash -> Beetronics Swarm.
However I feel I would like to stack another drive infront of it and Belle comes to mind as Im not much of a mid hump guy. I imagine if you put this in front of an already distorted amp that it would be blistering! The amount of clarity, headroom and hi-def tone completely enhanced my sound for the better and brought it all back to life. I've play mostly heavy metal, so a boost pedal is essential for the tones I chase. They're one of my favorite pedal makers for sure! So when he injured his thumb and couldnt play, I tried it out through my Mark5. It can get very dirty to very clean and transparent sounding. I love all the brands at sweet water and the demo videos really help. This almost acts like a preamp that is super harsh. The big bummer is how bright over all the outcome is. on November 8, 2021, By Jesus Aguilera Useable sounds with knobs in any position. Everything you love about Sweetwater in the palm of your hand. THREE MODES with their own distinct tones. The reason this happens is because the capacitors in the circuit leak a little bit of DC while the pedal is in the bypassed state. My bass player bought this and had been using it with great mind blowing resultsthrough his solid state amp to boot! I'm so happy with the results. Lots of great tones here! The place for all things related to guitar pedals. Also, TJ, my sales rep was amazing as always!!
While it is a very versatile OD/Boost pedal. Way more natural and responsive with a thick mid punch. I thought I remembered that they were supposed to be pretty quiet, but mine sometimes seems quite loud (noise in the chain, not volume). Should sound great in either order there are no hard and fast rules but I would definitely start with low gain on both and take it from there. I'm still not a huge fun of the #3 setting, but tubescreamer circuits never worked well with my amp. I just got the Double Barrel and really like it, I am just deciding if I want to just get the Morning Glory and stack it with the Plumes instead. Don't get this, get a regular ol' TS or a better clone.
In the past, I'd thought about purchasing an OCD, as I'd like the sound and knew it would get the job done.
It's so awesome and the look of it is just so groovy! I was surprised to find that there is no internal battery option. Curious, mine is pretty durn quiet, noise wise. It's going to be leader in the market IMHO. For the Marshall sounds I go with the Fulltone OCD. Im curious now. At $ you would be insane to pass on this pedal. This will be on my rig for a long time.
Also many thanks to Joseph for being awesome.
I love the tone of this pedal, it's my favorite pedal on my board!

The dual action foot switch is awesome! Channel two is a BOOST. You are using an out of date browser. Aside from that, this pedal has more boost power and headroom than most boost pedals. Great sounding and feeling pedal for extremely low price.
The level control actually makes a difference in all 3 modes, which are distinct from each other. (800) 222-4700. from Yorkville, IL on February 17, 2021, By Ian Chris. Thank You Erik for checking in and helping with my recent purchases , and for sending me a FREE industry standard power supply! Highly recommended. Sounds great on my strat with Klein Jazzy Cats too. Extremely versatile pedal. On bass and guitar, this thing adds a punch! Both the OCD and the Plumes has a lot of mids, with the OCD having loads more bottom end.
Volume does change across the modes.
I love the warm sound of this overdrive, which can give you a huge wall of sound as well. Its perfect if you like playing shoegaze, paired with a good reverb its a great combo. What do you like about how it hits the other two? Im a big fan of your pedals, greetings from Brazil. Channel one articulates the mids spot on, not too bright, but has a enough growl to make you smile.
The pop may be louder or quieter depending on the quality of the capacitor or the nature of the effect (i.e. from Hatboro pa on September 8, 2019, By Chris Buy this pedal. Of course, that's a subjective statement, but I feel like it has a super nice, warm overdrive tone and all 3 knobs are highly functional allowing for you to shape your sound to your liking. There isn't a bad setting on this pedal as far as I'm concerned. But I wasn't digging in because this drive sound is just simply awful IMO. And the knobs feel great and do a lot with just a little adjustment. It didn't make me Jeff, but the drive is so creamy it makes me want to play on and on. At this price point I think this is one of the best pedals on the market today. The thing does every thing reviews say. No need for cab sim. I recently got an electro harmonica big muff, the rams head version, and loved the massive wall of sustain filled sound, but found that fuzz is useless to me on the neck pickup. I tend to favor a fuzz sound, particularly the Op Amp Big Muff.

However, position #1 and #2 sound incredible. Highly recommend it. But Ive only tried tube screamer types, or clean boosts. There are zero bad settings.
I googled this exact subject. from Corinth ms on September 3, 2019, By Michael DeMichele from Asheboro, NC on June 21, 2020, By C. Larson In order to get these stacked pedals to sound and work properly youll need to use them a little differently than you would if they were ran alone. This thing lives up to the hype imo. I hope this helpsmaybe you got a random lemon, but so far, Ive had no issues and found lots of tones within the modes. It is an unreal pedal, cannot say enough good things. It is touch responsive like a TS. Outside of the Westwood, this is the the most versatile single function pedal that Earthquaker makes. In the past , I have tried a few, and they amuse me for a day or two, then have become a neusense not worth dragging out.
Earthquaker Devices make great pedals with high quality components.
I only exchanged it, because it was a bit too bright for my setup, even with the tone knob turned all the way down. Mode 3 reminds me a lot of my MIJ SD-1 from the 80's.
Plumes is Mode 3 just trying to match a TS. Has a lot of subtle different tones with the LED, OPEN and SILICON switch. But then Derrick Meade at Sweetwater told me about this bad boyand whoa nelly, it did NOT disappoint. 10 outta 10. I cant tell if its just defective, it does not sound at all like the samples I heard when I researched this one. My RAT is my main drive, I love the feel and sustain with an overdrive going into it, but like you mention, no volume boost. What do you think? This is what they had to say and is posted on their website: Mode 1 is my current fav. Searing, tight, colorful chugs. I will definitely add a second to expand my overdrive tones. Overall, great addition to my board, can't wait to discover what else I can do with it. The gain and level play together very well, and don't get too buzzy or compressed. Thanks Riley Koenemann for helping me with this purchase. Couldn't be happier especially for the price. Had to place 2nd noise gate in fx loop after preamp. Thank you EQD for doing innovative work and keeping it in reach. I have Euphoria going into my stereo set up, Vox AC15 and Egnater Tweaker 15 (Jensen Blackbird Alnico). There"s a nice chime to it (not too chimey, just right) and it even sounds great through my Vox ac4,Which I really wasn"t expecting being based on a tube screamer. Setting up first pedal board. Seems to be no matter where Im placing it, I find a tone/use I love. Great pedal!! It's fantastic. Very very interesting! When I dig in the Plexi-Drive gets very squishy and will cut out at the transient. This is a great drive. These two pedals stack really well for a lead tone! My wife gave me an EQuator as a birthday gift today. From just a little grunge to full on dirty, this little box is full of magic! Love this pedal. I had been using a Fulltone OCD for awhile, but felt it wasn't tight enough in the low end. Wow! I'm using this mostly as a boost (drive down) into a Marshall DSL20 amp. 5501 U.S. Hwy 30 W, Fort Wayne, IN 46818
