Hikers can proceed another 1.2 miles from the overlook down to the lake itself, with an additional 780 feet of elevation drop. We provide a wide range of wooden planks for different purposes. The Sperry Chalet is a National Historic Landmark Hotel located within the park, only accessible by a sizable hike. The Highline Trail is a signature hiking trail in North America. Those with a backcountry permit set up camp here and reach Gunsight Pass the following day. Hike to the rocky slopes over Siyeh Pass with a view of Sexton Glacier, then down through more meadows and along the beautiful Baring Creek to the Sunrift Gorge. Because the Cut Bank area is excellent habitat for grizzly bears, this trail is oftenclosed later in the summer due to bear activity. Every hiking trail in Glacier National Park crosses through bear habitat, as well as habitat for numerous other species of wildlife, big and small. When you arrive at this turquoise sub-alpine lake, look up to enjoy Mt. Moose sightings are a regular occurrence along this slightly less crowded hike in the park. Head up the Going-to-the-Sun Road, on the east side of Logan Pass, to Siyeh Bend, to access the Piegan Pass trailhead. Shuttle service to many of the popular destinations and trailheads in the park depart from the St. Mary Visitor Center. Wildflowers and wildlife, including marmots and bighorn sheep, are commonly sighted along the trail. Then continue up through the forest as intermittent views of rocky cliff faces tease you before seeing the splendor of the lake at the end of the trail surrounded by a circle of steep cliffs and waterfalls.
