Until they improve the design ir offer the replacement part, they will lose customers through social media and word-of-mouth or just dont care as most companies trying to maintain corporate profit via overseas labor. You can see in the photo where I scratched it with my fingernail. Some posters at AGF are saying that they have contacted Hercules and had replacement stands shipped to them immediately.

I tried to contact them many times - they ignored me. The grip was sticky, and the adjustment handle had fallen off. Mine too. And Yes, they dont sell parts. Just happened to my tri stand today Luckily I was stood right there when the handle popped. I returned my sticky-grip stand to Long & McQuade and received a new one in box. Well, I gotta give you guys that: You got a lot more faith in their products than the manufacturer himself when it comes down to whether or not those guitars stands are safe for nitrocellulose lacquer finishes (hint: they say they ain't so sure). Good info! KHS America is not responsible for any losses incurred while the stand is involved in the warranty process. Hercules needs to deal with this. He said to bring it in and they'll give me a new one, no questions asked. Ive read elsewhere that they have changed the material for these clamps now to avoid the sticky problem which I can only assume also degraded the plastic below to allow it to break. However, it seems our friends in the UK are SOL as their distributor is saying "tough titty". They advised me to buy a new stand, of course. Same issue but also the retaining knob to collapse the legs all sticky same as the broken hand clamp for the height. If the adjustment clamp on a single guitar stand slips, the guitar is still resting on the two front padded legs of the stand. I called customer service and sent pictures to their email. And I thought it was just my one. They are the Canadian distributors for Gibson as well and take care of all warranty service. After a couple of years of the handle of my double stand going gooey it just disintegrated tonight but luckily with nothing on it. First the adjustment handle got sticky and then it broke. Mine fell apart yesterday. Did actually try a screw but it was unreliable. Thanks for sharing your experience.
In the meantime, Ive used the alcohol grip cleaner solution and a cable tie to hold the trigger in place. No matter, I never used the adjustable height feature. Trigger broke and the handle is sticky as hell. I have several Hercules stands where the fingers on the yolk that hold your guitar broke off. I wont be buying Hercules again. But I digress. My nitro Gibson and Martin are on Hercules wall hangers all year round with no marking or discolouration. Im loving this idea of the screw and will hopefully remedy this tonight. An even cheaper fix is to stick a pencil into one of the holes. Noticed the height adjustment handle on one of my Hercules stands was sticky. Drill the rivet with a 3/16 or so drill, and then push the remainder into the hollow part of the tube. Same problem as everyone above. The two (and perhaps the three) guitar stand holds the instrument straight vertically.
Same exact problem, the clamp handle and pin flew out the back as I was putting my guitar back on the stand. If you are in Canada, speak to your retailer. I bought mine 10 years ago and have raved about their quality.

First Hercules stand I got was for holding three guitars, within a month or so one of the clasping mechanisms failed. Hercules should get on top of this immediately, if they want to keep a loyal customer base. I had my SG Classic on one of my herc stands for about 3 weeks last month, I had restrung it and decided, I was needed to play it more so I just left it in my home office next to the amp I keep in there..

I bought the screws as you specify and repairing one was a two minute job. Darn you Hercules! My sticky grip is gone and I had the screw in my garage. Just took photos, IDs etc to Hercules online per their request and hope they will honor a return???? Same thing here was this Hercules designed obsolescence (or self-destruct)? 1.800.283.4676. I renew the L&M warranty every year for $45. I read the warranty on their site and took it back to guitar center and they gave me a new one. Adam, Also, the Hercules stands are not safe for our nitro-finish guitars since the plasticized grip parts are bound to rub off on the guitar over time. after three years of use my hercules stand grip is very sticky and now it is getting broken in small parts so I want to know if you can send me the complete set to repair my stand. I just lifted the upper part of the stand of then pulled the plastic handle off the top. Yup, same thing happened to one of mine. Having to take photos and send them is a royal pain, but Im on it; maybe Hercules will respond. If you followed what I did and it didnt work, then Hercules changed the design of the stand, or the screw inside the packaging was different than the one identified on the packaging. I just want to salvage my original. I just sprayed mine with spray-on rubber, like flex seal. This thread reminded me I have one of those sticky stands. If you have an old guitar cable lying around; cut the standard jack plug off the cable. Their customer service is fantastic! I've got a sticky one, and a not sticky one. It's an issue with the particular plastic that they used. Sorry to hear. Stand failed at height adjustment mechanism, ridiculously sticky plastic, etc. Sturdier than with that funky sticky handle! Old stands but still usable just The auto grips are off scale and would like advice from you or anyone on self repairing this.
Hi Patmatt Theres also a philips head tap screw that will need to come off to completely remove the old handle. The lower bout only touches one of the back supports, because the piece that has the yoke on it is off by a slight angle. Thanks Hercules for standing by your product!! After the gig is over, and you are breaking down, pull the jack out of the hole and the tube will slide down so you can fold it up and be on your way. Im so very glad it worked. I love the stands otherwise. pivot locking handle breaks and gets sticky ,its simple mine broke out where the spring pin pivots i put it back in and put two two nylon zip ties right where the spring pin goes and it works fine and will probably last forever ,it pivots just fine and locks in perfectly ,as far as the stickiness goes used alcohol on it the make it not sticky any more. I have stopped using mine and contacted the company through their website. The grips now feel like solid, smooth plastic. My leather strap was on the instrument, so that must have cushioned it enough that it wasnt a dead drop on the endpin and did not crack the end of the guitar, but it still hit with enough force to scare me half to death, and then fall on the face of the guitar on the hardwood floor. I mean helpful towards other posters here. I assume there is something in the rubber which is chemical reacting over the time (maybe with sunlight) and than is aggressive to the plastic. Im interested (without reading the whole of responses here) in fixing the auto grip area of the guitar stand By It looks ugly but its functional again. Mine broke apart as i was carrying my taylor 914 by the stand ( because its safe in the cage, right?) Bummer. The issue here is a failure of a grip/clutch mechanism due to faulty materials. So I'm going to take the grip apart, drill in a couple of places and put a bolt/nut on it and give it to my son for his bass. Home Depot carries the screw for $1.05. Of course no longer had the packaging or receipts. I have one I use for my J200 too and even though that deosn't sit there for extended times, because I case it when I'm not playing it, there is no visible sign of finish damage on the head stock where it rests on the stand or the back legs either. I've also used these stands for ~10 years for a variety of guitars, including new and old gibsons and i've never had any finish problems. Im frustrated and disappointed. One of mine did this. I saw the same solution, but also looking into the potential of 3D printing and/or fiberglass tape with epoxy to restore full functionality. Just fixed 3 of my hercules stands. Thanks for the fix. Thank you for this posting. The new one has a grip that is smooth, hard plastic, unlike the slightly rubbery feel of the old one. A known issue. I just called Hercules today: They said they are well aware of the problem. Has anyone come up with a replacement for the foam tubing where the headstock rests? Using a pitch gauge, I found that an M50.8 20 mm screw will keep the neck of the stand in place. I had the same problem with both of my Hercules stands at the same time. The zip tie fix worked well on the broken handle. Hoping to get a free replacement from Hercules. Going to a Home Despot and trying find a special screw has its own set of challenging circumstances here in Southern California. But in the meantime, the pencil works. Grip just rotted away. Purely anecdotally speaking, Ive been using their stands since 2001 and have never experienced any nitro marking, discolouring or other ill effects by way of their gear. You can post now and register later. Mentioned it at the Sam Ash store I bought them from from and got little better that a blank stare. Now Ill go apologize to my son. The local retailer took it back and replaced it out of stock with a new (and I assume improved) version. It all has to do with the particular distributor in that country. Most of the associates in Home Despots will tell you that their job would be great if it wasnt for the customers. Same attitude at many of the Guitar Centers around the country (Except Nashville, TN!) Phenomenal service in my case. I just need to figure out how to send on the STL file for 3-D printing from here. It took hours of time for Jim Mozell to repair my guitar but he did an expert job and it cost me nothing. Clearly this is a design issue with the materials used on the handle. Same problem with a Hercules twin guitar stand and did the same fix that Roy posted , but cleaned up the lever drilled and fitted the screw thru with 2 locking nuts where the spring sat . My 5 year old Hercules stand just broke at the handle as well, called the 800 number and he sent me an email and said for me to send him a picture and he would send me a new stand. Wow this stand clearly had reliability issues , Came here after googling for solving this very problem. I have a similar issue. Why dont Hercules do something to remedy this? I used the plasti-dip brand and it totally bonded with the sticky rubber and made it useable again. Its also a fairly common size bolt for bikes. The material in the handle has turn to something akin to a sticky silicon and adjustment lever has snapped off. So I went to the garage and found a zip tie. mine did the exact same thing- didnt know why the thing deteriorated into a sticky mess! but I dont want send it to a landfill if I can fix it. Most of my other guitars are hanging on the wall from Herc wall hangershope the cage design is more robust. It want buying the new stand that worried me so much though reading some of these reports you need to key your eye on them but wasting 90% of the stand for a small component. I no longer have a guitar on that stand. So my status graphite, sandberg and paisley P were saved from a serious incident. Local seller I got it from had never heard of this issue and couldnt find warranty details. Screws, springs, pads, foam, and other parts subject to normal wear have no warranty coverage. Even though I purchased my 2012 SJ200 Golden Age used, I received a full year of L&M warranty. Think I will employ the screw method and leave them up all the time which they were anyway.
Drill the rivet with a 3/16 or so drill, and then push the remainder into the hollow part of the tube. Same problem as everyone above. The two (and perhaps the three) guitar stand holds the instrument straight vertically.
Same exact problem, the clamp handle and pin flew out the back as I was putting my guitar back on the stand. If you are in Canada, speak to your retailer. I bought mine 10 years ago and have raved about their quality.

If my guitars go crashing to the floor I would bring the pieces to Hercules, if I knew where the customer service office was located. I note that KHS have been helpful. Hercules is aware of the problem (2006-2008) and has fixed the manufacturing errors and is replacing any stands exhibiting this symptom. First Hercules stand I got was for holding three guitars, within a month or so one of the clasping mechanisms failed. Hercules should get on top of this immediately, if they want to keep a loyal customer base. I had my SG Classic on one of my herc stands for about 3 weeks last month, I had restrung it and decided, I was needed to play it more so I just left it in my home office next to the amp I keep in there..

I bought the screws as you specify and repairing one was a two minute job. Darn you Hercules! My sticky grip is gone and I had the screw in my garage. Just took photos, IDs etc to Hercules online per their request and hope they will honor a return???? Same thing here was this Hercules designed obsolescence (or self-destruct)? 1.800.283.4676. I renew the L&M warranty every year for $45. I read the warranty on their site and took it back to guitar center and they gave me a new one. Adam, Also, the Hercules stands are not safe for our nitro-finish guitars since the plasticized grip parts are bound to rub off on the guitar over time. after three years of use my hercules stand grip is very sticky and now it is getting broken in small parts so I want to know if you can send me the complete set to repair my stand. I just lifted the upper part of the stand of then pulled the plastic handle off the top. Yup, same thing happened to one of mine. Having to take photos and send them is a royal pain, but Im on it; maybe Hercules will respond. If you followed what I did and it didnt work, then Hercules changed the design of the stand, or the screw inside the packaging was different than the one identified on the packaging. I just want to salvage my original. I just sprayed mine with spray-on rubber, like flex seal. This thread reminded me I have one of those sticky stands. Youll then be able to move the sticky, broken handle and you can separate the telescoping parts. The sticky issue is a worry, but have just checked mine and none are affected. Their customer service is next to none.
If you have an old guitar cable lying around; cut the standard jack plug off the cable. Their customer service is fantastic! I've got a sticky one, and a not sticky one. It's an issue with the particular plastic that they used. Sorry to hear. Stand failed at height adjustment mechanism, ridiculously sticky plastic, etc. Sturdier than with that funky sticky handle! Old stands but still usable just The auto grips are off scale and would like advice from you or anyone on self repairing this.
Hi Patmatt Theres also a philips head tap screw that will need to come off to completely remove the old handle. The lower bout only touches one of the back supports, because the piece that has the yoke on it is off by a slight angle. Thanks Hercules for standing by your product!! After the gig is over, and you are breaking down, pull the jack out of the hole and the tube will slide down so you can fold it up and be on your way. Im so very glad it worked. Moved my S-6 and the stand collapsed. Indeed, this is a serious design flaw that can cause serious, irreparable damage to guitars. I love the stands otherwise. pivot locking handle breaks and gets sticky ,its simple mine broke out where the spring pin pivots i put it back in and put two two nylon zip ties right where the spring pin goes and it works fine and will probably last forever ,it pivots just fine and locks in perfectly ,as far as the stickiness goes used alcohol on it the make it not sticky any more. I have stopped using mine and contacted the company through their website. The grips now feel like solid, smooth plastic. My leather strap was on the instrument, so that must have cushioned it enough that it wasnt a dead drop on the endpin and did not crack the end of the guitar, but it still hit with enough force to scare me half to death, and then fall on the face of the guitar on the hardwood floor. I mean helpful towards other posters here. I assume there is something in the rubber which is chemical reacting over the time (maybe with sunlight) and than is aggressive to the plastic. Im interested (without reading the whole of responses here) in fixing the auto grip area of the guitar stand By It looks ugly but its functional again. Mine broke apart as i was carrying my taylor 914 by the stand ( because its safe in the cage, right?) Bummer. The issue here is a failure of a grip/clutch mechanism due to faulty materials. So I'm going to take the grip apart, drill in a couple of places and put a bolt/nut on it and give it to my son for his bass. Home Depot carries the screw for $1.05. Of course no longer had the packaging or receipts. I have one I use for my J200 too and even though that deosn't sit there for extended times, because I case it when I'm not playing it, there is no visible sign of finish damage on the head stock where it rests on the stand or the back legs either. I've also used these stands for ~10 years for a variety of guitars, including new and old gibsons and i've never had any finish problems. Im frustrated and disappointed. One of mine did this. I saw the same solution, but also looking into the potential of 3D printing and/or fiberglass tape with epoxy to restore full functionality. Just fixed 3 of my hercules stands. Thanks for the fix. Thank you for this posting. The new one has a grip that is smooth, hard plastic, unlike the slightly rubbery feel of the old one. A known issue. I just called Hercules today: They said they are well aware of the problem. Has anyone come up with a replacement for the foam tubing where the headstock rests? Using a pitch gauge, I found that an M50.8 20 mm screw will keep the neck of the stand in place. I had the same problem with both of my Hercules stands at the same time. The zip tie fix worked well on the broken handle. Hoping to get a free replacement from Hercules. Going to a Home Despot and trying find a special screw has its own set of challenging circumstances here in Southern California. But in the meantime, the pencil works. Grip just rotted away. Hello folks, same story this evening. I'm taking mine back to L&M tomorrow for replacement and L&M will deal with Hercules for me. I knew the handle was unusually sticky but I didnt think much of it since I primarily use it at home and I really dont need to adjust the height very often. Im going to have to try this. After reading some threads about the handles breaking I looked closer at mine and it was cracked on both sides and starting to come apart. Im sorry to hear others did not have such a great experience contacting the company, and Im happy that some had my same experience getting a new stand under warranty. Purely anecdotally speaking, Ive been using their stands since 2001 and have never experienced any nitro marking, discolouring or other ill effects by way of their gear. You can post now and register later. Mentioned it at the Sam Ash store I bought them from from and got little better that a blank stare. Now Ill go apologize to my son. The local retailer took it back and replaced it out of stock with a new (and I assume improved) version. It all has to do with the particular distributor in that country. Most of the associates in Home Despots will tell you that their job would be great if it wasnt for the customers. Same attitude at many of the Guitar Centers around the country (Except Nashville, TN!) Phenomenal service in my case. I just need to figure out how to send on the STL file for 3-D printing from here. My particular model doesnt have a screw to hold the fixture in place, but uses a rivet. Thanks for the tip.
Older ones, as they have changed the plastic that they used. Fortunately, my Taylor acoustic survived the experience. It took hours of time for Jim Mozell to repair my guitar but he did an expert job and it cost me nothing. Clearly this is a design issue with the materials used on the handle. The rest of my stands have been sold off. If it does, stop using it. That plastic lock died and exploded. We have two of the stands and in both cases they received minimalno, almost nonexistent use of the adjustment grip, yet in both cases that plastic grip degraded, getting sticky and weakened to the point of snapping on its own when we were not even attempting to adjust it.
